DirectorJohn D. Kuhns has served as a director of the Company since April 2000. Mr. Kuhns is President and founder of Kuhns Brothers, a private investment banking company. He has more than 30 years of experience in energy and alternative energy related businesses and investment banking. In 2002, Mr. Kuhns founded GenSelf, which sells photovoltaic systems to residential and light industry customers in southern California. In 1996, Mr. Kuhns founded The Solar Electric Light Company (SELC), the first company to successfully sell solar home systems to customers off the grid in the third world. Mr. Kuhns was the first institutional investor in SELCO, where he remains a significant shareholder and is the Company's Vice-Chairman. From 1989 to 1995, Mr. Kuhns founded and was Chairman and CEO of New World Power Corporation (NWPC), one of the first successful distributed power companies. NWPC assembled and sold stand-alone renewable power generating equipment, principally solar and wind power facilities used in either grid support or remote applications. NWPC went public in 1992 and was sold to ACX Technologies in 1996. From 1982 to 1988, Mr. Kuhns was founder and Chief Executive Officer of Catalyst Energy Corporation, one of the nation's first and largest successful Independent Power Companies. Catalyst Energy Corp. was cited as one of the nation's fastest growing public companies from 1982 to 1987, according to Inc. Magazine. In 1988, Catalyst Energy was sold to what is now Brascan, a Canadian holding company. In 1998, Mr. Kuhns founded the Strategic Electric Power Fund, LLC and related funds to capitalize on trends being established by the deregulation of the electric power industry. Mr. Kuhns began his career at Salomon Brothers in 1976, where he was involved in financing publicly owned Electric Utilities. In the mid 1980's, Mr. Kuhns merged his investment company with another to form Kuhns Brothers & Laidlaw, the predecessor of Kuhns Brothers. Kuhns Brothers & Laidlaw acted as investment banker for initial and secondary public offerings of emerging growth companies. The Firm was the lead managing underwriter of the initial public offering of Calenergy, the largest geothermal company in the world. Mr. Kuhns is a graduate of The Harvard Business School (M.B.A., 1977), University of Chicago (M.S., Fine Arts, 1975) and Georgetown University (A.B., Sociology and Fine Arts, 1972).
